As a circumcised male, naturally I have a predisposition to view circumcision as the ‘normal’ condition, albeit unnatural. The uncircumcised male penis is considered potentially ‘dirty’ since the area under the fore skin is a breeding ground for bacteria in the absence of good personal hygiene. A circumcised penis is considered a technologically superior member. Secondly, the uncircumcised penis somewhat resembles the dick of a dog, i.e., completely and unabashedly primitive and therefore wicked. The philisophical desirablility of reason over the animalistic component of our being, hence reason(science) over brutish bodily function, leads many people to believe that the uncircumcised penis is vile, bestial, dangerous and primitive. Of course, this is an ethnocentric interpretation.
