Being six decades old doesn’t mean I know everything–however: though the questioner probably has already ‘used the towel’: for anyone else there need not be a lot of pain or ‘mess’: in my experience the woman stretched her vaginal opening (with my gentle help) or (some friends I knew) even had the hymen opened surgically and then worked at stretching their opening prior to the ‘big night’. There really should not be pain or mess for a first time sex experience: set your expectations and self-respect a little higher, please.
