I’ll weigh in on the Jewish perspective on this question – if you were born Jewish, you have to BE Jewish (ie fulfill the commandments). If you weren’t born Jewish, then you don’t need to have a religion to get into heaven. All that is ‘required’ are what are called the Seven Noachide Laws which include the belief in God as the all-powerful Creator and Administrator, and the basics of civil law (don’t kill, steal, have immoral sexual practices etc.) In short, the ‘just be a good person’ idea actually is true.
