Jfer P.ParticipantYes, Jews still believe (after all this time) that a saviour will come. We don’t have very much information, but believe he will be human, not supernatural or godlike in any way. A very good, learned person, but a person nevertheless. Judaism has always (even before Jesus) taught that the job of the messiah, called ‘moshiach’ (the annointed one) in Hebrew, will be to rebuild the Temple, reunify the Jewish people, and inspire the world to a life of godliness. ‘Salvation’ (not really a Jewish concept) will be, as it is now, through observance of the commandments, 613 of them for Jews, and the 7 ethical observances for non-Jews originally given to Noah. We do not expect that non-Jews will all of a sudden convert to Judaism, or that the messiah will preach to or specifically teach non-Jews at all (Jesus didn’t do this much, either). Non-Jews will be able to bring sacrifices to the restored Temple, just as they did previously, in the days when it still stood in Jerusalem. Other monotheistic religions (e.g. Islam and Christianity) have always been considered by Judaism to be valid paths to Heaven. The times of the messiah will be no exception to this.

Jfer P.ParticipantIt’s actually not a matter of ‘accepting’ you so much as it is about YOUR accepting Judaism. While technically, a person born to a Jewish mother (or converted according to Jewish law) is a Jew, joining another religion constitutes a rejection of Judaism in your life. It’s like a country that doesn’t accept ‘dual citizenship,’ really… you can’t have it both ways, as much as the messianic preacher-‘rabbis’ will try to convince you otherwise. (they are usually born-Christian missionaries who will say almost anything to win converts) In accepting Christianity, you will be adopting many beliefs which are antithetical to Jewish teachings, and in doing so, you will need to let go of your Jewish ‘citizenship.’ Visit http://www.jewsforjudaism.com for more information.
