Why don't we call everyone by ma'am? As a young woman I hardly ever get called miss or ma'am though I dress respectably and always try my best be polite and courteous, but all I ever get called is 'you' or 'hey'. If someone called me ma'am, I wouldn't be offended even though that's normally used for older women. The simple fact that they took the time to address me respectfully is enough.
