JesseParticipantOnly one way: ask. It’s never wrong to offer assistance in a general way. ‘May I give you a hand with that?’ is always a polite inquiry. Then listen for their response. What infuriates me are: 1) People who grab things out of my hands. 2) Folks who do ask, but phrase the question assuming I’m incapable. For example: ‘You can’t open that door, can you?’ 3) Folks who ask but don’t listen. I’ll say, ‘Thanks, can you hold the door open from the left side?’ yet they’ll stand in the doorway. There’s no way for me to go through the doorway without running over their toes.
