Yeah, I don’t call anyone ‘ma’am’ unless I’m addressing my mother or grandmother. If I’m joking, I might say ‘yes ma’am’ to somebody I know, but that’s about as far as I’ll go. I’ve had firsthand experience calling Black women of any age the ‘M’ word, and I don’t remember anyone outside my family feeling respected or flattered.
