    They desire attention. If the noise their cars make is so loud that it can’t be ignored, then everybody’s heads will turn and they will have achieved their goal. I also agree with another poster that it’s about showing off what their income can buy.

    Yeah, I don’t call anyone ‘ma’am’ unless I’m addressing my mother or grandmother. If I’m joking, I might say ‘yes ma’am’ to somebody I know, but that’s about as far as I’ll go. I’ve had firsthand experience calling Black women of any age the ‘M’ word, and I don’t remember anyone outside my family feeling respected or flattered.
