Though I have no hard statistics to back this up, my general sense is that most blacks would vote to outlaw guns in the hands of private citizens, and the overwhelming majority would support the most stringent registration, tracking and control requirements if guns were not outlawed. It is also my sense that most blacks think most whites in this country are insane when it comes to guns and this very insanity is responsible for so much of the reduced quality of life endured by so many here. On this subject these blacks, in general, see little distinction between rightwing or leftwing whites, rich or poor whites, urban or suburban whites. And the idea that they would formulate or modify their views to fit some liberal or conservative white agenda is silly. They see whites as being at the source of the problem and largely responsible for its perpetuation, reasoning that whites hold the real power here and if the majority of them wanted to do something different about guns then they would. Most blacks I know (and I do not think they are an atypical bunch) would say that based on their observations and direct experiences, most white folk (especially white males), through some profound, primitive sense of insecurity, have come to almost worship the gun as some enhancing appendage, an extension of their own being and a great equalizer, and have just driven themselves mad over the sense of added potency it provides. It is seen as a comic tragedy, and this crap about a sacrosanct right to bear arms, whether emanating from the NRA or Congress, is seen as just that, crap. That we have the most powerful military in the world, federal, state and local law enforcement entities surpassing in size and budget those anywhere else in the world and still somewhere between 200,000,000 and 250, 000,000 guns held privately (according to ABC News) was not a situation envisioned by the framers of the constitution when they included that archaic provision. It is seen as now serving only the paranoid, the criminal and the latter-day Neanderthal.
