The first thing we need to ask ourselves is ‘Who are we?’ Many people want to bring about social change, but have many diverse ways of going about it. In the ’60s there was social change, but a more focused group brought it about. There is no one issue standing out in anyone’s mind. Drugs? Well, too many people do them to fight them. Poverty? We are involved in a post-consumerism horror state called noveltism. Nobody can spare too much to bring about change because most people are concerned about what they are going to buy next. In fact, that brings me to my point: Because of noveltism, the best thing we can do is educate people who will listen. Love people, not things. Use things, not people.

This is a question that bothers many whites (or European-Americans). Having studied multiculturalism in many respects, it comes down to this, in my opinion: The African American culture in the United States is still redefining itself. The group was joked about for many years and is quite sure that they do not want to be laughed at anymore. I can understand completely. White people, however, have not been the butt of many jokes throughout history. Maybe some ethnic groups and/or nationalities such as Irish, Italian or Swedish, but whites have remained without cruel humor pointed at them. And that’s really the main point here. Blacks were cruely depicted for many years. Why should they have to be subjected to anything at all, now? Why chance it? That’s just my theory.
