My sister taught in China for about one year, and I visited my sister for about two weeks. I too, noticed that trend amongst girls, and I had the same question. However, I found out that since it is so crowded in China, personal space tends to be much smaller than the U.S. and the girls simply link arms as friends, no more. I gaurentee you that there is no affection or that they are lesbians.
