Dan31668ParticipantI notice the same thing. Immediately after the John Wayne Bobbit incident, there was an endless onslaught of Leno/Letterman jokes and whatnot. And I remember seeing this movie called ‘Folks’ where Tom Selleck’s character lost one of his testicles in a flagpole incident, and it became a running joke for the rest of the movie. And in a movie out now called ‘Ready to Rumble’, there must be about 50 different graphically portrayed ‘low blows.’ I guess society thinks that men are supposed to ‘take it’ and tough out whatever comes their way, but women are seen as having a much more tumultuous and emotional struggle with such a loss. With a man losing his, one thinks of Uncle Roy stepping on a land mine in Korea or a cousin getting in a nasty motorcycle accident. With a woman, one thinks of their sister or wife struggling with illness and emotional strife.
