I know many people, whether American or Canadian who refer to themselves as XXXXX-Canadian or XXXXX-American (i.e. Italian-American, German-Canadian). The only people who don’t do so are people of known English descent (unless you’re in Quebec, where anyone English speaking is an ‘English-Canadian’). Therefore, in some circles, you’d be referred to as Irish-American.
