Typically it’s money set aside for a person as inheritance or money for getting started in life, placed ‘In Trust’, so that it cannot be accessed until certain conditions are met, like turning 18/21, graduation of some kind, getting married, etc. People do this to pass money along without dumping it all on someone before they’re ready for the responsibility. I’ve never met anybody who had one that I knew about, but some people don’t share that stuff as eagerly – it might make you look like a cream puff if others think you can’t/don’t have to make it on your own.

Really, I think it’s just a style. I remember hearing that it might have been associated with people trying to conceal weapons, but that sounds suspiciously like trying to work backwards from the image to the pre-conception. It did get associated with hip-hop, and like any other fashion trend (tight pants for rockers, Black for goths), it just kinda became the uniform

You might be surprised to find out how many ‘foreign’ cars like the Toyota Camry, BMW X5/X3 among many other are made here. Also, why on Earth do you think that corporations based in this country are more on your side than those based on other countries. If Ford, GM, and Chrysler are somehow looking out for you, why would they take their manufacturing plants to Mexico and Canada? Why won’t they, or can’t they match the quality of foreign makes? If you think that because a company is based in the US, that then it is good for, and a friend of the U.S…you’ve got a lot of homework to catch up on. If I have 25k to spend on something to get to and from work, and cart my family around, am I going to pay Ford, who is falling behind in sales, while leading in recalls and class action lawsuits? Why would you buy an inferior product from a company for whom corporate welfare guarantees when there are better options?

Don’t forget to thank teachers, cops, firemen, paramedics and trash collectors. Also sewer workers, the ConEd guy and the mailman. Vote for people who will protect veterans’ benefits, and provide both funding for the military, and some discretion in how they are deployed. They don’t need your verbal thanks as much as they need to be taken care of like they take care of us.
