Beth23209ParticipantI agree with the posting mentioning the ‘cootie factor.’ I have a friend who is male. When we meet, we generally haven’t seen each other for at least a month. We’re both married, but I consider him a very good friend. He tends to do the ‘shoulder hug,’ where just our very upper bodies meet. I don’t have any romantic feelings for him, I just want to show him that I appreciate him by holding him close and having him hold me close. Even if only for a second or two. Tight full-body hugs do not mean you want to have sex, only that you want to feel appreciated.
