Loopholes in religion? If you’re an atheist, what does it matter? The most disturbing issue here is the fact that the Jewish community wants permission to build this rope-wall on city property. If there’s one thing all citizens should be vigilant in preserving, it is the separation of church and state. Regardless of one’s religious beliefs or lack thereof, the separation of church and state works to everyone’s benefit.

I am not of Arabic heritage nor am I religious in any sense of the word, but it seems to me that the movie was anything but racist. The point, as I understood it, was that any race, religious sect, etc., of people could potentially be singled out when a person of that said group commits an act of terrorism or war. What was the first thing we did when the Murrow building in Oklahoma City was bombed? We stopped all Arabic people leaving/entering the country. Do people panic when confronted with extreme acts of violence? Do we act irrationally? Of course we do; it’s natural, an instinctive response of survival we will never lose. Should the reaction ever reach the point it did in The Siege? Of course not – and that’s exactly the message the movie was sending. Certain Arabic/Islamic groups have committed terrible acts of terrorism, that is a fact. The Germans, under Adolph Hitler, committed unimaginable acts of inhumanity. I am of German heritage. Does that mean we shouldn’t make movies such as Saving Private Ryan or Schindler’s List in order to avoid hurting my feelings? I hope fervently that this will never be the case. Can you imagine your life if every artistic work – whether that be a movie, painting, play, book, anything artistic or thought-provoking – was created/produced specifically with the intention of not hurting anyone’s feelings? This web site wouldn’t exist, that’s for sure, and we’d all be quite a bit more ignorant than we already are.
