Why does it have to be a christian religion? It is an arrogant assumption that people all have to be christian; that that is the one true only way. There is a richness in the different spiritual paths, that does not have to get in the way of unity among people.

Also, the church at the time was keen on aquiring land. Many second and third born sons who didn't inherit the family farm, or go into the military studied to be clerics and priests, and whatever land they were to inherit would go to the church, instead of any heirs the priest would have.
