Ashley B.ParticipantTo me the meaning of the Confederate flag all depends on who the person is that is displaying it. Personally I am glad that the North won the war and I think that slavery is an injustice done to a group in our society that can never be forgotten. However I take pride in the Confederate flag for the simple fact that I am proud to be from the South. I also have enough respect not to fly this flag in public or display it where everyone can see because I know that to some it is a painful reminder of what happened to their ancestors and can cause much controversy.

Ashley B.ParticipantOne thing I have never understood is why blacks and hispanics think that if a white person is discriminated against it serves them right (or how Sherman stated ‘see how it feels’). Where I am from the majority of the population is hispanic and I get discriminated against for being white. There have been times that I have been refused an employment position because I am white. I get called ‘gringo’ and ‘cracker’ and not once have I ever been ashamed of it, but if I were to call a hispanic person a spic there would be huge ordeal. I think the problem with racism is that if you weren’t even a little bit ashamed of who you are then you wouldn’t be offended.
