I am from the United States but I am pretty sure that most people in the United Kingdom do not use washcloths. My ex-boyfriend’s parents emigrated from Scotland. When I stayed at their home I searched and searched for a washcloth in their linen closet, to no avail. I was told by my boyfriend that they do not use them – they just rub soap on their bodies and use their hands. I took a couple of washcloths with me the next time I visited and left them there – my ex-boyfriend says they are still there in the back of the closet untouched. The only disturbing thing to me about the shared soap policy was finding his father’s white pubic hairs on the soap.
