Allan-MacKinnonMemberAnd if you were Asian you can say the same things about Blacks copying them. Everything from Wu Tang, wardrobe/make-up in videos and fashionable tattoos/clothes with asian symbols that I’m sure even the wearers don’t know what they mean, show that white and hispanics aren’t the only culture copy-cats out there. As for white people following in black footsteps I think its just an illusion. Many white teenagers listen to white singers: Brittany Spears, Limp Bizkit, Celiene Dion (Sp?); and so forth. Its just those that like rap music also get into the culture of the music that they follow. It happens with all music genres: punk kids get piercings, wear army fatigue, sport odd haircuts, etc; Britany Spears/Spice Girl followers dress like bimbos like their idols, 80’s hair band followers had big hair and bad clothes, and rap lovers dress in FuBu and speak fluent ebonics. I find the whole concept of mixing cultures a terrific and enriching thing. I find it very comforting that all races and in many countries, people do it so much. Have you ever heard a Tiawanese person say how much they loved Celiene Dion’s music…I have. Black people are just very musical as part of their heritage. During slavery many learned to play instruments and sing as can be seen in many movies about the time period if you need a quick visual. I suppose the tradition was kept alive because music is an enrichening and beautiful thing. I’m not too well versed in how the music industry works but it has done an infamous job of placing vulgar and stereotypical imagery of blacks in music videos. Perhaps its a rebellion of the historically religious and orderly beliefs of black culture that these kids likely grew up in taht they are now doing in rap/R&B videos. Damn, kids are a nuiscence =) (I must be bored today. this is a long-winded post) Personally, I’m just happy I never followed trends when I was a kid or I might have incriminating pictures of me in Hammer pants and be cursed with Vanilla Ice lyrics endlessly floating in my brain.
