Not enough people stop and think about the decision to procreate. I know and see so many people who have children who did NO research before getting pregnant, and never stopped to consider adoption, or Big Brothers and Sisters, or foster care first. This begs the question, what is a family ? Why does it have to consist of your genetics? The only answer i have is EGO. People want ‘part of them and their spouse’, like making babies was a mail-order process. Starting a family has become less about creating a new individual and that individuals’ growth and development and how YOU as parents can help them, and MORE about what the parents want out of the child. We need more education in schools on parenting, child-rearing and child development, and the CHOICE of having or not having children. Many women I know have children in their 20s and 30s without even questioning this major, life altering decision. There is no shame or lack of fulfillment in deciding to focus on your career, home and marriage WITHOUT children. AMEN !
