Older people, esp. females, need to feel safe. Some communities have higher crime rates. Whether it’s high violent crime or non-violent crime rate, I wouldn’t want to live there. Women of all ages feel vulnerable. We know that most men could overpower us physically and beat us up or rape us. The older you get, the more vulnerable you feel. Better safe than sorry. I’m not elderly and I’m afraid to live in most parts of my city. Our mayor happens to be very gang friendly, but barring that… Society is getting more violent. Police departments are more cash strapped and understaffed and political correctness run amok has made it nearly impossible for cops to actually arrest gang members without fear of criticism by activists. The elderly are perhaps more worried since they are seen as easy targets and because they remember a time when the streets weren’t controlled by thugs.
