When greeting a White acquaintance, usually male, I extend my hand for a traditional handshake, but the person will try to appear ‘hip’ and give me what I call ‘the soul-brother handshake.’ I haven’t done that since the 1970’s. This also occurrs with my children. Why is this necessary?
