FossihundtParticipantMy dad’s father was mixed Native American/Caucasian ancestry. Sadly what tribe he was was not passed down. His family was from SW Virginia. What I would like to know is, how do “Real” Native Americans regard folks like me? I have Northwestern European coloring (Medium brown hair, light skin and blue eyes) but Native American facial features (prominent cheekbones and the way my eyes are set). Some years ago, while attending a genetics class in Colorado the instructor looked at me and asked “Which one are you, Mexican or Indian?”It blew my mind that someone actually could tell my ancestry. The bottom line is: I’ve been trying to find out more about my Indian ancestry for many years, but am hesitant to contact any Native American Tribes because I’m afraid it would be an insult. Any thoughts?
