Why do women’s versions of sports generally go ignored by the media and the population, with the exception of gymnastics, ice skating and tennis, in which women manage to garner a major percentage of the attention?

Really wanna know? Voyeurism. If the participants of these sports were to wear black body suits, how many people would watch? Spend some time observing MEN sometime. Even the most ‘respectable’ men will steal a ‘crotch shot’ when the opportunity presents. Observe the family man checking into a resort hotel, bending his eyes looking at females his daughter’s age walking through the lobby to the pool. Men are dogs.

Women are usually ignored in the sport arena because they are simply not as exciting to watch. Women lack the physicality needed to perform on the level that men do. In general, women will never be able to dazzle the spectators with the fantastic, breath taking aerial acheivements of the gifted men of the NBA. In general, a woman can’t crack a home-run like a man can. Soccer, hockey, football, rugby; all sports that women do excel in when solely looked upon. But compare the action of men playing vs. women playing a particular sport, and you’ll find the men’s game always more enjoyable on the basic level. I believe that men and women are ultimately created equal were it counts. Let’s face it though, men are more biologically suited for sports.

I enjoy some women’s sports. I actually enjoy women’s tennis more than men’s. Women’s soccer is also widely watched. My issue is with womens basketball. People don’t watch it because it isn’t entertaining. Tim Duncan is a much better player all-around than Shaq will ever be, but who gets more endoursements and media attention? Shaq. People watch sports for entertainment. Fundementals are good, but every once in a while, people want to see a dunk. There is no excuse for anyone over 6 feet to never dunk, male or female. If no one in the NBA ever started dunking, it would never have become the power house it is today.

I don’t mean to be a jackass but whenever I watch a woman’s sport I end up thinking that they just aren’t nearly as good as the men. They are smaller and have less muscle mass. Consequently they just can’t do the same things the men can so I choose to watch the men. Sure, if they sexed up women’s sports I suppose I would be more likely to watch. I wouldn’t be watching the sport though. I’d just be looking at girls.

Womens sports don’t get the attention that men’s sport do because in most cases, the top women athletes are nowhere near as strong or as fast as the top men. In short, women’s athletics are second rate. If a spectator is going to spend his time and money watching athletics, don’t you think he would want to watch the best? The only reason women’s tennis (sorry but gymnastics and figure shkating are not sports)is popular is because women like to watch their peers and men like to watch cute women in tight clothes.
