Why is it that when you see people here in America who are from a different country, it is most often the women who are in ethnic dress and not the men?

From what i have seen when families come over they are looking for jobs and new lives.. and in some households Men still work and women stay at home. Men feel that they need to "blend in" with the American ppl. and women (if not working) are free to dress.. alot of women that work here dress juts the same (like us) some appreciate their cultures and will not change for anyone... Bless Change has come!!!!

It is more likely you'll see a woman from a conservative culture wearing traditional dress than one from a more liberal place. Not just short skirts and belly shirts, some cultures find women in pants to be offensive. And, of course these are the same cultures wherein a woman's virtue is more valued than a man's. Hence, the women are made to maintain standards from the old country while the men are free to wear whatever they want.

In most third-world countries, women cover up most of their bodies and, sometimes, traditionally cover their heads, which renders modern fashion, traditionally, less suitable for women than men. That is why it's the women who are often in ethnic dress and not the men.
