TorParticipantOne of the lines from the Bible is ‘A man shall not lie with a man on a women’s bed – it is ritually unclean.’ (Genesis) That said nothing about a man lying with a man in general or a woman with a woman. That is a direct translation, actually. Another thing is that showing intolerance of homosexuals isn’t being a good Christiam. Christ was killed because of intolerance, so do you dare to continue such intolerance?

Brittany19277ParticipantI am uncomfortable when i see two people, of any sexual orientation, kissing on the sidewalk, cause i never know where to look 🙂 I am not however, uncofortable when I see a gay couple holding hands or hugging. Unless, I am with an older elative who is not as ‘with it’ as young people are beginning to be. Hopefully, the discomfort will end to some degree as more and more generations frow up around openly gay couples.

Someone27890ParticipantWhat do you do when you see stairght people making out in public…stand there and stare at them? I don’t. But when you see two gay people making out in public, people seem to look, and disapprove of it. If people really cared that much about it, they should be our parents, but they are not, so they need to get a life.

RebeccaMemberWhen I see any couple being overly affectionate in public, I am not digusted, more uncomfortable. This applies to straight and gay couples. I have no problem with hand holding or hugging or a brief kiss, but when a couple is making out or are all over each other, I think it is inappropriate. As for people who are only offended by gay PDAs, I guess it would be because its less common. But that’s not an excuse for discrimination. And as for the Christians and Catholics who put down homosexuals because ‘its not natural’ or ‘not in the Bible,’ the Bible and many church teachings are out of date. The stories in the Bible were written and collected by men in a time when males had all the power and child-bearing was necessary for the preservation of the race. Times have changed.

Sarah M.MemberThere are several Lutheran demonimations in America (ELCA, LCMS, Wisconsin Synod, and a few others) with different stances on gay-ness. The largest by far, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), welcomes gays into fellowship. Please specify what Lutheran church you are from. Don’t lump them all together. It is important for GLBT folks to know there is a safe and welcoming place they can worship and express their faith.

JJ SchmindgrenParticipantHm, interesting. There is only 1 God, right? How come there are numerous religions and a different ‘God’ for each. There are many people out there that are praying to nothing…. Not a choice…I believe you love a PERSON…doesn’t matter what race or sex. What is the difference between a homosexual couple and a heterosexual couple? In the many areas and things that make up a relationship, there is only one thing different…sex. There is much more to a relationship besides what parts each of us has. Next question…people say that being ‘gay’ is not right according to the bible. Ok, well, isn’t committing adultery one of the ten commandments….so maybe straight people shouldn’t be allowed to marry…because many straight people commit adultery and that’s a sin…it’s not right. A lot of things not making sense…doesn’t all add up!

DanMemberYes, thanks very much to the above poster for clarifying the fact that, 6000 years ago, without today’s scientific advances, reproduction could only occur via sexual intercourse between a man and a woman (Adam and Eve in your example). The flaw in your theory, though, is that ‘God’ DID make two Adams and two Eves. In fact, he made roughly 200 million (3% of the world’s population) of them (Adams who like Adams and Eves who like Eves). If we do subscribe to your Creationist account of existence, then of course it’s pretty clear the first two humans have to be male and female in order to propagate the human genome (or ‘go forth and multiply’). But what kind of omniscient, omnipotent Creator would be so blind as to not be able to project into Our future and see homosexuals as loving, friendly people, who contribute to society in so many ways, particularly through the arts, and who DO have the capability to ‘go forth and multiply’. Yes, people stare at gays kissing because it’s not ‘normal’. In fact, in Australia, people stare at Aborigines because they’re not ‘normal’. Same with disabled people or a straight white guy in a gay bar. But to equate abnormal with UNNATURAL is a failure of logic. For a gay guy to love a WOMAN is, for him, THAT is unnatural. (I’d like to see you try.) And as the Bible says, ‘men [abandoning] the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts’ is a grievous sin. If the Bible is ‘inspired’ by God and is so overwhelmingly great, shouldn’t we use our modern understanding of the love that does exist between same-sex couples (just ask Dick Cheney) to form a MODERN interpretation of Biblical passages?
