What encourages people to be adult movie actors or actresses? Do they feel pleasure doing that? How does a woman feel when facing the fact that she will be totally exposed and considered as a toy for guys, other women or groups? For those who have done this, if they could change their lives, would they?

I can't tell you about the female point of view, but for guys, it's pretty much what you may have already guessed. Most guys see it as the opportunity to have sex with gorgeous women and get paid for it, too. Most guys you see in 'professional' porn are well-endowed and don't have a problem being exposed on film for all to see. This is important for people to know, because a lot of younger people think these guys are of normal size. They are not. Just as not all women are as big-breasted as adult stars, not all guys are as well-endowed as male adult movie stars. As for feeling pleasure, it's very exciting at first, but after a while it becomes a little bit of a chore to 'perform on demand'. This is why porn films will have fluffers. Fluffers are women who arouse the guys before they have to appear on camera. As for the money issue, the females are paid much more than the guys. Obviously it's easier to recruit guys to do adult movies than women. All you basically have to say is, 'free sex', and they're there.

Although I can't say from experience, Most women who are in that business have been sexually abused at a young age and haven't gotten any counseling, so they continue to act out sexually.

Very simply,...usually someone becomes an adult star because they want to, same reason someone becomes a lawyer or butcher. Sure, many of them feel pleasure. It is actual sex going on, not 'make believe'. That's part of the appeal of the job. The pay for higher class porns is pretty nice too. If someone is going into the porn industry,..then they obviousely don't mind being exposed. J. Jameson is hardly upset about people knowing her nude body. As far as changing their lives, thats just personal. Same as a teacher might wish he had been a writer, anyone can wish they had a chance to live their life over.

Just a small comment, most (if not all) porn films do not have fluffers. That's just a myth.

I've watched a few more adult flicks than I would like to admit, and I've rarely seen women who seemed to be genuinely enjoying what they are doing. In those extremely rare instances, I believe they were doing it with their real lovers. I think a few of the most beautiful porn stars do it because they get paid well and because they hope it may make them a star in Hollywood for non-adult flicks. I think the majority are ruthlessly exploited, particularly when they've aged a bit and are no longer as attractive as they were in their teens. Many probably have limited education and limited prospects to improve themselves. Some may be drug addicts and 'perform' to get their next fix. And some, particularly from foreign countries, may even have been kidnapped or 'sold' into the sex trade. I think the majority would love to be doing almost anything else.

I had a roommate who had been an adult star, and I have several acquaintances who were strippers, and what most of them had in common was an array of psychological disorders stemming from massive childhood abuse such that they were unable to hold down 'straight' jobs. Someone who is bi-polar (manic depressive) or schizophrenic is going to have a lot of trouble holding a regular job - particularly if they are un-medicated - but in strip clubs (and porn, I suppose) that sort of thing is considered 'normal'. My friend who had been an adult star had quit the adult movie business and stripping several times, but kept going back to it. She really wanted to have a normal job and life but couldn't because of her psychological problems. She needed a job, of course (L.A. is an expensive town). She'd go to the doctor and get put on some medication for bi-polar disorder when she couldn't take it any longer. The meds would help her out - but, the meds are also salt-based, meaning they'd make her put on weight. You can imagine how she felt about that. It didn't help when the club owners would tell her she was getting too fat to work - so then she'd go off the meds. I've read that bi-polar people also go off their meds because they want to hit the manic cycle again because they enjoy it so much - my roommate certainly did. Of course, then there's the inevitable 'crash'. Suffice to say this girl was a very challenging roommate.

Although I am a male, I work in a legal brothel here in Nevada, and have asked that very question to some of our ladies, several of whom have done adult movies. Some are in it for the money, obviously, but most of the answers I have received center more on the fact that they enjoy the camera time, the people they work with or being able to be in control of the scenes they play out on film. I have yet to meet one woman who had recriminations about shooting nude scenes or say they were used or abused doing the shoot. It has been my observation that most of the women in the adult entertainment industry either have husbands or boyfriends/girlfriends at home, or are nymphomaniacs and enjoy the paycheck. They generally enjoy the work, and with proper savings and investment while working can expect retirement within three to five years.

My research on the matter indicates that economics play a significant role. Also a relative or close friend may insidiously encourage gradually more participation in activities that move the boundaries. The participants may have been mistreated in their family/work lives and this provides an opportunity to receive positive affirmations, attention, acceptance, money, a certain kind of respect and status, etc. These can be very powerful motivators.

For men its probably the strong desire for sex and I think for women its the strong desire to make easy money.
