Could some please tell me what ‘black’ music is? Just because you are white doesnt mean that you cant enjoy rap or r&b. White people can dance just like black people can…if you would look at a rap video there are always girls of all races dancing around….lets try and get rid of all the stereotypes.

I am mostly white and was raised in a white household, and I like rock music and can’t dance. I can’t dance I guess because as a kid no one ever showed me how, but I have white friends who can dance very well, and when they have tried to show me, they said I was too stiff – I guess I would have had to start earlier. Also, I do like to dance, even though I am not good at it, but sometimes when I do, black people laugh at me ant say it’s because I’m white, which I think is racist and sort of embarrassing because it makes me feel less confident of my capacity to eventually figure out how. I like rock music because I like the melodies and lyrics and the sounds of the instruments. I don’t like all rock music, but I like a lot of it. My best answer would be to ask why WOULDN’T someone like rock music? It sounds so moving and beautiful to my ears, so I’d like to know.

Please, Daisha! White people certainly do know how to dance. What’s wrong with you! Now I darn well know you have heard the term ‘different strokes for different folks.’ That’s what it amounts to. Blacks have a certain style, Mexicans theirs, Asians theirs, Pacific Islanders theirs…and the list goes on and on…many races, many cultures, many varieties of dance even among the races and the cultures. You also ask why whites like rock music. I’m white and I don’t like all of the music that is classified as ‘rock music.’ I like some of it, but certainly not all of it. I like a little of just about all kinds of music that I can think of. I don’t even know where you’re coming from with such questions as these. I have a feeling that you are young, black, and probably prejudiced. How would you like it if I asked this question: How come blacks can’t walk without a shoulder dip and a foot drag, and how come they like gangsta rap? See what I mean. My advice to you Daisha is to get out in the world and expand your horizons. You might discover that people all over America have a whole lot of things in common, and those things ‘peculiar’ to certain groups are not worth worrying yourself over because those peculiarities are but fleeting.
