What’s so bad about a chick with a guy’s job?

I am a 35 year old, well educated woman, who happens to have a very traditionally male, fairly high-profile profession. This is a second career for me. In my previous life, I held a very traditionally female job as a nurse. Most consider me to be quite attractive and, as a nurse, I never had any trouble finding dates and/or relationships. However, now that I’ve made this career change, I’ve noticed a remarkable shift in the way men approach me. I still don’t have too much trouble capturning male attention initially, but they tend to focus on my job, and it (A) Attracts freaks, or (B) Scares nice guys away. I’ve spoken with other women in my position around the country and they have experienced the same phenomenon. (By the way, I am currenlty living in a small city in the deep South at the ‘suggestion’ of my employer.) Here are my questions: Why does my job repel the men most women find interesting? Is my current location part of the problem?
