Dave25968ParticipantI have the teeth-falling out dream about once every week or so. The parts I can recall usually start with me already having lost a tooth. In the dream, I actually react to this rather cooly – I’m only mildly upset. Usually I keep the tooth in my pocket, thinking that maybe I can get to a dentist to have it ‘hooked back up’. But I’m always in the middle of something else so I don’t actually think to call a dentist for an emergency visit. Then, I notice another one of my teeth is loose. It eventually comes out, and then another is loose. I get increasingly anxious about my teeth, and finally wake up. I never feel extreme panic though…it’s more the level of feeling you get when you are realizing you lost your wallet/purse…which is still very unpleasant. Another recurring dream that I have, perhaps even more often, is the I-didn’t-do-my-schoolwork dream. Sometimes this involves not studying for the test, and these ones aren’t to bad because in the dream I’m at least somewhat hopeful I can wing it. Worse are dreams where I slowly realize throughout the dream that there is a required course I have forgotten about all semester. It’s usually the case that it’s the last semester of college, so I’m realizing that due to my forgetfulness I’m not going to be able to graduate on time. In these dreams, I usually start out sort of dismissing the problem – thinking I’ll be able to cajole my way into a passing grade or get some kind of deferment – but then at the end of the dream I’m quite upset and feel that the situation is hopeless. I used to have the I’m-naked-in-public dream, but not anymore. Lately I’ve started to have dreams revolving around my committing very rude and self-centered, obnoxious behavior towards my friends. I don’t know what the tooth dream is about, because I don’t feel afraid of getting older or dying. The schoolwork dream I’m pretty sure is guilt-driven. I’m not lazy and generally don’t slack off at work. However I’m lazy when it comes to things about working on keeping my relationship with my wife healthy. I think I have guilt due to that.
