HellyMemberWhy is it that someone can make fun of another person for being gay or bisexual, but as soon as it becomes ‘trendy,’ they insist they’re more gay than you and are better?

Monique20334ParticipantI never heard of that. I guess it depends on the part of the globe a person lives in. I usually assume if a person is homophobic that they’re still going to hold their views regardless of whether it’s the 21st century or beyond. However, some people do make fun of or scorn homosexuals or bisexuals because of their upbringing, and then there are some who may have homosexual attractions but feel dirty or ashamed, so they project those self-loathing feelings onto someone who may remind them of a part of themselves they hate. I wouldn’t say they’re closeted gays, but they may struggle with those desires and thus take it out on someone who is gay as a form of denial. Not all homophobes are secretly gay, lesbian or bisexual. I’ve never been around a homophobe who admitted to being a trendy gay,so it’s all new. The best way I can explain this is conformity; some people, when they’re around homosexuals, become like those people, while others who are around homophobic people day in and day out become like those people. So it must be conformists who adapt according to the environment they’re in that you’re talking about.

Mark22115ParticipantIs there any link between your bisexuality and your being an atheist? In short, does religion not accepting your sexual orientation have anything to with your not accepting the existance of a God?

StephanieParticipantI know what you mean. I’ve wondered the same thing. It almost gets annoying. For some reason, it’s not OK or normal or ‘cool’ for me to be seriously bisexual, but it’s OK for someone else to be ‘bisexual on the side.’ (Yes, I did hear someone at my school say that.) My guess is that they think it makes them seem more attractive and adventurous. From what I’ve seen and heard, a lot of people seem to think bisexual equals promiscuous. And promiscuous seems to be the ‘in’ thing now. I have a sort-of related question: why is it more ‘okay’ for females to be bisexual than males? It also seems to be that when people hear a female is bisexual, they assume they’re mainly straight, but when the person is male they’re automatically gay.

Rev. Bob BillingtonMemberThey’re going to burn in hell anyways…. so why worry about them? They’re the reason our nation is in shambles… if you’re gay, you’re better off dead because Satan will have his sweet sweet way with you in hell.. sinners.

ShannonParticipantI have seen this many times. Bisexuallity became a trend my sophmore year. Everyone wanted to do it. At first, you were put down for it, but then it became trendy. Girls making out with girls, guys dating guys. Personally, I think society kind of got a clue and decided homosexuality is here to stay. Alot of my friends came out and are happy about it. Then there were the people who just wanted to ‘test drive it’. I personally love all gay people. They are so friendly and nice.

BiggsMemberI have had many relationships with people who were both bisexual and homosexual. In those only one homosexual relationship remained true throughout the years and only one person was true to whomever he had a bisexual relationship with. So maybe the ‘Gay Community’ has had a hand in people’s assumptions. But, also, here’s another with the previous ignorance as a base. My guess is that it depends on a person’s sexual preference and their ‘forbidden’ fantasies. For a straight male that has been approached by a bisexual female, he may be thinking that she leans more toward females but is willing to include a male. For a homosexual male-he may assume that the caller leans more toward males etc. In all cases, yea, the assuption of promiscuity is there.
