Is it true that in Japan, factory employees make less wages than employees in the United States? Also, do they have a period of the day when all employees exercise together?

I have worked for two Japanese transplant companies in the US. One of them sent me over to Japan for two weeks of training in their way of quality. One of the Quality Engineers I met there, when I asked him about it said he made a certain amount of Yen per year, which at the time translated into about $35k annually. He did have quite a bit less experience than I, but I was only making about $7k more. I’d say the payrate is close, maybe slightly higher there. As far as the exercise, they did do exercises, usually starting about 10 minutes before the start of their shift. It was primarily stretching exercises. What I find exteremly funny, I now work for a bid US Dept. of Defense contractor, and we do similar exercises.
