MunaParticipantThe Simple Life of Noah Dearborn With Sidney Poitier, Dianne Wiest and Mary-Louise Parker This is a wonderful movie. It reminds us of what is truly important in this life. Too many of us are caught in the rut of our 9 to 5’s or 9 to 9’s, to see that what is truly important in this life is more important than making a dollar. I truly believe that this is an issue that will make or break this country in the near future. We must get back to basics. The warning signs are all too ominous. Six year olds are shooting other six year olds. Corporations are paying CEOs and management outrageous amounts of money to run businesses into the ground against all suggestions and labors of the common worker that truly need and deserve better compensation. Cost prohibitive rates and advertising censorships, which in effect create monopolies, are allowing the greedy few to gouge the many unsatisfied and overcharged consumers unjustly. Recourse is questionable in a justice system that has become or maybe always was a “Just Us” system. Kalil Gibran said it best in his book The Prophet, “…And all work is empty save when there is love; And when you work with love you bind yourself to yourself, and to one another, and to God…” I don’t think many would argue that more than half of Americans today do not love their work. If you agree with Gibran, then what is it that unhappy workers are bound to? The Revolution has begun. Do not let this spark die. If we can dream it, we can make it real. If we can put a man and woman on the moon, why can’t we form an economy and society that nurtures and respects peoples need to be able to do what they love? This includes spending more time with family and the raising of children. Everyone wants these things, but few Americans are able to accomplish them. Why? We must reexamine our goals in every aspect of our lives. We must learn to work together with each man and women being encouraged and helped to labor at what they love before this great nation goes the way of the Roman’s and self-destructs from within. We are well on our way in the wrong direction. We have a tremendous amount of work to do to change each of our individual paradigms before we can hope to change our collective ways of thinking, teaching, learning, and making a living.
