If a couple has agreed to separate so they can have time alone before deciding what to do about their relationship, should either one of them date other people? My girlfriend and others have encouraged me to do this, but I’m not interested until I know what will happen with us.

It sounds like a question on ‘is there life after girlfriend.’ It seems to me that 1.Your girlfriend is probably dating other people or perhaps will if the right person comes along, which would perfectly fit into taking time alone(it really usually means without you and not necessarily all alone) 2.You wish to know what happens with you. Well for now as hard as it seems the best thing would be probably to face the reality: you have split up. And to sit and wait doesn’t help you live your life, which is what you have to do. While you are sitting and waiting to see what happens to your relationship, you should really concentrate on learning how to live your life and be separate from your girlfriend, since it is what could happen, if both of you or one will decide that it is really better to be apart. P.S. It is maybe possible to reconcile and get back together but your work now is to be separate and be ok with it and it could take some time. At this time it is good to do things that you really wanted but never got a chance to do, like maybe pursue your hobby and don’t forget to look after your appearances.(Gym, sports, hobbies.. you should have a bit more free time to do those things now)
