- Why do some people (not just women) insist the toilet seat be lowered? Doesn't it make more sense to leave it up? I can't tell you how many times I've gone into restrooms without a urinal and would not dare touch the toilet seat. It seems it would be more sanitary to lower the seat, do your business and then raise it back up, thereby eliminating the possibility of making a mess.
