Why does it seem like most terrorists are from the Middle East?

Because that's the stereotypical garbage we see in the media. The continent that has the highest percentage of terrorism is South America. And remember the Oklahoma City bombing, the most notorious terrorist attack in American history - committed by a white man? It seems to me that anti-Arab stereotypes and racism are the last remaining socially acceptable kind of overt racism.

The simple fact is, they're not, not most of them. Hollywood and the news media just depict what Middle Eastern terrorists do as typical of terrorism. But think harder and you'll find many terrorists who are not. Think of the hundreds of attacks by the IRA, the cult in Japan that used nerve gas in the subways, or right here at home in the Oklahoma City bombing. For that matter, look to our past, of terrorist groups like the KKK who bombed churches and assassinated their opponents, like Medgar Evers. Sometimes the Klan staged armed attacks against whole communities like the Cherokees of Robeson County, N.C. Or you could look at state-sponsored terrorism like what happened in East Timor, or business-sponsored terrorism in Mexico in Chiapas by the ranch owners against the local Indians. Or Occidental Petroleum's sponsoring of terrorism against the U'wa Indians of Colombia. Yet the image that the media and Holllywood pushes is of the Arab terrorist, not white terrorists like the IRA or KKK. That's probably because the Arab community is small enough, and the culture is so alien to most Americans, that the media rightly knows they can get away with making that assumption easier.

I would just like to add to this excellent and informative response, another significant terrorist group, which was the pre-1948 Zionists, led by former Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin.

If it seems that way to you, than it seems to me that you either watch too much Delta Force and Iron Eagle and/or are ignorant of world affairs/conflicts. Your question reminds me of a lady on the Laura Slesinger show the other day. She mentioned going on a trip with 2 of her kids to Nepal and said something like 'dont worry their not a Muslim country so i wont have to worry about terrorism.' The host replied that the US is not a Muslim country, yet 3,000 people were killed in 9/11 by such terrorists. She is not only naive in thinking Buddist Nepal would be imune to Al-Quada's rath simply b/c the Nepali King 'declared 9/11 as a day of national mourning' as she pointed out (as did the US...), but also very ignorant of the events of the nation she is going to visit. If she knew anything about Nepal she would know of the six-year old war between the Nepali government and Moaist guerillas, who want to replace Nepal with a communist state, that has left 1000s dead and crippled the impoverished nation's economy. Youll need to do more than watch CNN and True Lies to learn about the world.
