I spent several years growing up in New York City. During that time, I was beaten up on eight different occaisions. Seven of those beatings were by groups of young black males. I have always been wary of young black males ever since. I don’t trust them. I do not have this same instinctive fear when I encounter black women, elderly black people, etc. I have been told this is a racist position and that I should ‘get over it.’ OK, maybe it is racist. But I often hear African Americans saying they don’t trust white people because they’ve had bad experiences with them, but I’d never get away with telling them to ‘get over it.’ Isn’t this a double standard? I almost got killed and I’m just supposed to forget it?
