To smokers: Why do you inflict your smoke on other people in public places such as malls, restaurants, bus stops, etc.? I don’t like breathing cigarette smoke, but it seems like I don’t have a choice sometimes.

I don’t know what your experiences have been nor what the laws in Quebec are in regard to smoking. I try very hard not to blow smoke in people’s faces, but if I’m outside and someone sits/stands next to me when there are other places farther away from me available and I’m already smoking, I don’t see why I should be the one to move. I do agree it would be rude to smoke if there was no other place for the person to go, or to light up after someone stood near me.

to add to the question: why do restaurants and places that do not allow smoking inside put their ashtrays right next to the entrance. it seems to me like this defeats the purpose since anyone who might be allergic to smoke will still have to walk right past the smokers to enter the building.
