How do black – I’ll use the US Census term since I’m quoting their stats – visitors of this site honestly feel about the high percentage of black children living in single-parent homes? [As of 1996 nearly 52% of black children lived with a single mother, compared with 16% of whites and 26% of hispanics.] Often, the understandable reaction is a defensive one as this question seems like an attack or insult. But I think all would agree that it is ideal that ALL children be brought up in a [functional] two-parent home. Therefore putting aside any feelings of having to make excuses what are your HONEST reactions to these numbers?
