Barb V.ParticipantMy eight-year-old daughter would like to know how people in different parts of the world/country greet each other.

ACC25093ParticipantIt’s good you have such a curious daughter. In the Philippines I saw that younger people would greet someone older by taking the older one’s hand and touching it to their (the younger one’s) forehead. This is a way of showing respect. Many Mexicans and Mexican-Americans say hello by just tilting the head up without saying anything, kind of like the reverse of nodding yes. I don’t know why, but I’ve always seen it.

Tomas S.MemberWe usually shake hands when meeting someone for the first time or in a formal situation, say hello when meeting someone for the first time in the day, and just nod or do nothing otherwise.

RickMemberIn Holland, if you know the other person, you kiss once on the left cheek, then the right, then the left again. This is only between women or between a man and a woman. Otherwise, you shake hands.
