While traveling late one night down to Los Angeles, I had to make a stop at a highway rest area to go to the bathroom. When I walked in the bathroom, I opened a stall door only to find one man performing oral sex on another man. I apologized and quickly shut the door. I then noticed that two of the other six stalls were occupied by more than one person by taking a quick peak under the doors. I have heard that highway rest areas are a frequent gathering area for men to ‘enjoy one another’s company’ but had never confronted it myself before. Why are gay men willing to take such risks and why would they want to even do this in the first place?
