Why do many all-night Rave attendees suck on pacifiers?

One of the most popular is a drug called Ecstasy (or E, or X). It causes people to ‘grind,’ i.e. grind their teeth, which sometimes can make them bite their tongues, or do damage to their mouths. The easiest way to avoid this is to suck on something. Sometimes you see people with lollipops, or gum, but many use pacifiers, and it has since become a trend – so that many people not on drugs now suck on the pacifiers.

When someone takes E, or ‘X’, or Extasy they fixate on repetitive tasks for many many hours, ie: dancing, etc. Specifically it causes you to grind your teeth which can lead to back pain, etc. The pacifier allows the E-user, or ‘E-tard’ if they’re a serious drug user, to focus on a mouth movement other than grinding. I believe the pacifier was chosen and then made popular by someone in the early days of raving in Toronto or Chicago where it first started.

Acid affects the nervous system and when high they need something to do with their mouth, hense sucking on pacifiers and lollipops.

It’s more of a fashion thing than anything and thus isn’t nearly as prevalent as it once was. Ecstasy gives you a ‘clenchy’ feeling and that can be anything from just clenching your jaw muscles to literally grinding your teeth. I’ve heard people grinding their teeth so hard that it’s woken me up. Gum usually suffices and looks less stupid in my opinion.
