Just a quick question for those that support affirmative action: To a large degree, affirmative action exists because there is a demographic disparity in certain jobs, schools, etc. But why isn’t there an ‘affirmative action’ in regards to sports? If you look at basketball, football, and baseball, you will find that the sports are dominated by certain groups. But couldn’t it be argued that certain fields (math, chemistry, engineering, etc.) are normally dominated by certain groups as well? Some people might say it’s because ‘blacks are better at basketball.’ But then couldn’t we simply say ‘whites and Asians are better at academics?’ So why is there affirmative action for African-Americans to get into engineering but there is no affirmative action for Latin Americans or Asian Americans to get into football?
