‘People of Color’ – is this an OK term?

    I don't like the term 'people of color'. It's reminiscent of the adjective 'colored', which carries too many negative associations of skin color. Why can't American ethnic minorities simply be called 'ethnic minorities' or even 'non-white people', which may not sound P.C. but I would wear this label with pride because I am proud NOT to be white! Why must the term 'color' constantly dog minority groups? The term 'people of color' is used to include all non-white Americans. Does this imply that white Americans have no color (not even the pinkish hues)?
