NE24338ParticipantWhat is with the perception of people from small towns? I grew up in a rural part of upstate New York, and ever since I came to college, people ask me the weirdest questions. You know, like, ‘Have you ever seen a computer?’ or ‘Does your family have a TV?’ There seems to be this attitude that everyone from a small town is ignorant, backwards, inbred, bigoted trailer-trash. Why is this? I’m a well-spoken person, as are most of the people I graduated from high school with. Why do people think we live in the Stone Age?

DannyHParticipantThere is a great deal of hubris in the cities- especially the coastal cities. It makes them feel better to see all of us country-folk to be ignorant and stupid. Actually, I usually find it amusing, and use it to my advantage. You have no idea how many people hear a Southern Accent and assume that I’m stupid. By the end of the transaction, they’re shaking their head and wondering what happened. Life’s a banquet and most poor bastards are starving to death!
