Why do parents often refer to themselves in the third person when talking with their kids? Why do they say ‘Mommy has to go now’ instead of ‘I have to go now’. Seems to add an unnecessary distance or power differential to the relationship but I’ve never been a parent and so wonder if there’s another reason.
