I am not sure if this is a topic for YFORUM or not but when I heard this situation on the news I was truly amazed. A ‘famous’ gorilla just died at the Atlanta Zoo. According to the news report that I heard, the animal will be cremated. This is fine. But now the outrageous part. The plans (that I heard) call for transporting the ashes back to Africa, and then scattering them over the jungle. This is to ‘return’ the animal to his homeland. Is anyone out there as astonished as I am about such events. We in this country and I am sure in Atlanta in particular are aware of many many homeless who need shelter. Children who are hungry. Children who need shoes. Women (and men) who are in need of much help raising children. Someone, somewhere needs to start looking at what such institutions (zoos, museums, etc) are doing with the dollars given them, both tax monies and charitable donations. Their main purpose is great, but this is OUTRAGEOUS.
