- Do non-smoking facilities offend smokers?

Lately, I believe that it is getting out of hand. If I go to a restaurant and find out that it is non smoking, I have a choice to make. I can either go in and eat a nice dinner and wait until Im done and go to my car to have a smoke or I can get back into the car and go somewhere else. I am getting upset that everything is geared toward non smokers. They have a choice too. They don't have to stay at a restaurant if they offer a smoking section. A smoker chooses to smoke, but there are times when non-smokers have no choice but to be around smokers. If it's about a building or a business that chooses to be non-smoking, as per the post, no, it doesn't offend me. I say this because the owner has made a clear choice that he believes benefits him, personally or fiscally. However, if the title is to be believed, anti-smoking laws deeply offend me. This is the government stepping in and discriminating against those that light up. We don't choose to once nicotine has its hold on us (read the definition of addiction), and more importantly, the business owner had had THEIR choice stripped away from them. I live in a state that has recently adopted anti-smoking laws, so this is a subject that strikes a deep chord with me, and I appreciate the opportunity to speak my mind.User Detail :

I am irritated, though, that the state government wants to make all bars in my state non-smoking. I think if a bar owner (and the bar patrons) want the bar to be non-smoking, they should be able to make that decision. Until the issue of pollution is more fully addressed, I will continue to feel like I am being singled out for punishment. At the college I attend, they do not allow smoking on the grounds at all. I feel this is unfair since I am paying for an education. It seems everywhere I go I have to leave to smoke. A hospital in my area won't even let you sit in your vehicle and smoke! I don't have children, so I don't think that they should have the right to forbid my smoking. In addition, where do the laws stop? What will be next? Until they start offering "smoking" facilities I will continue to be offended. It's a private property issue as far as I'm concerned. If you own a business, you should have the choice of making it smoking or non. If you want both, then accommodate both, but the government nor anyone else should not have the right to tell you what to allow in your own establishment unless it is illegal. In the future smokers will have two choices - your car or your home, and maybe not even your car. Try nicotine gum or lozenges when you're out and leave the air clean for non-smokers.
