Eric F.MemberCan someone tell me the proper Muslim greeting and response? I believe the greeting part is something like “As-Salaam-Alaikum.” I get the impression the greeting/response varies by group (Black Muslim, etc.).

Shahidah E.MemberI am Muslim, and no matter what type or race, we all greet each other the same: One says, “As-Salamu-Alikum,” and the other says, “Wa-Alakium-Asalam.”

FiaxMemberThe return greeting would be ‘wa-alaikum salaam,’ meaning ‘peace be upon you, too.’

Fatimah H.MemberI am a Muslim. The greeting ‘Assalamu Alaikum’ is Arabic for ‘Peace be upon you.’ It is used by all Muslims regardless of their sect, race or nationality. This greeting is used between Muslims, and the proper response is ‘Walikum Assalam,’ which means ‘And upon you be peace.’ This greeting does not vary by group or ethnicity at all.
